Pickup trucks are a completely normal thing to see on my commute to work.
But today I saw TWO unicorn trucks on the highway in one trip to work.
First up:
MontegoMan! That’s a normal GMC Sierra Pickup, who cares? Well, it’s a Hybrid. I’m not saying it was a great choice to built Hybrid Sierra’s (I think this is proven by how few actually sold lol), but it sure as hell is a rare one.
Second Unicorn Pickup needs no explanation:
You don’t see these every day and I know a lot of you guys love them.
All random google images as I was driving and I don’t have a dashcam.

It was a good idea, but as per GM standards, underpromoted. Or they could have just gone ahead and dropped the 4.5L Duramax in the 1500. HINTHINT

There was a two week period last month where I saw 5 DIFFERENT Lincoln Mk LT’s. It was weird

The Baja is not a pickup truck, it’s a damn Legacy!

Hahaha.
I mean as far as a full size crew cab 4x4 pickup goes, 20 city 23 hwy is a pretty good MPG set up.

WHOA
I have an odd level of interest in the Lincoln Pickups.

technically I only called it a Unicorn Pickup
I may have titled the post “Weird Pickup Truck Day” but I never directly referenced the Baja as a truck, just a pickup (which it is because bed)
Pickup car?

I do see a Baja nearly every day, but as it parks at a location on my way to work, that’s cheating.

I do think the Baja would be less bullshit if it had a big passthrough or a midgate. Hey, at least I’m pretty sure it cheated the chicken tax via “passenger car, hurr hurr”, so that’s something.

Pickup car sounds like you’r calling a rental agency. I prefer ‘ute.

I know most of NJ Natural Gas’s fleet is the Sierra and Silverado Hybrids. I also did a dealer swap for a hybrid Escalade down in Richmond once. Gas mileage wasn't terrible.

Agreed. Mine isn't a full size, but has the same basic engine, but smaller, and without hybrid. Even in Canadian MPG I'm completely blown out of the water.
But I'd still like to see what the smaller diesel would have done. Partly because of a genuine interest, but mostly because I want one.

I’ll take it.

The hybrid’s got the 6.0 IIRC.

IIRC the GM hybrid pickups had a 110v power outlet inside the bed, able to run off the hybrid battery for a ridiculously long amount of time without needing to start the engine. Had they offered the hybrid package with this feature in work trucks they might have been onto something. I’m sure it could’ve caught on quite well with the camping and tailgating crowds as well. Definitely underpromoted.

You do RC. Same basic engine though, it's just bored out a little more.

My neighbor has a baja.
Bool car/truck thing.

Me too! Especially the Blackwood

Yes, very underpromoted. Tailgating that truck would have been EPIC

I actually prefer the LT, but I get that they were trying to make the pickup more luxury than just a new grille and fancy seats in the Blackwood, and I respect that they tried.

I don’t understand why they put the 6.0 in there. Why not the 4.3 or 4.8 if you are going for efficiency.

A fellow shop teacher I work with has a Baja. It needs head gaskets ... I know ... Shocking.

on a SUBARU?!?!
NO WAY!!!!
Haha, I’m really not a fan of them, was just crazy that I saw two unicorns with beds today.

I know, right?
He likes it, but was disappointed about needing such a major repair. I said, “Well, it’s a Subaru, it’s what they do.” He responded, “Yeah, I know that NOW...”
Definitely a unicorn worth posting about :)

Subaru, Subaru, Subaru! Baja, Brat. You name it.

You saw 5 out of the six on the road.

Haha yeah pretty much

Unicorns with pickup beds, all of them.
They aren’t my thing because Subaru but it’s still one of those “oh hey check that out” kind of cars.
